Smile
I look at you.
Your green-brown eyes,
turn in my direction,
and I catch your glance.
I smile, and you
respond the same way.
I look away because
the teacher is staring at me like
I’m some freak.
And five minutes later,
I look at your reflection
in the mirror
and see that you are looking at mine.
Maybe it’s all foolish hopes,
maybe I’m hallucinating,
But I think, I hope,
that you think of me like I think of you.
