Simple Things
Simple little things are the most important of all,
your first teenage kiss, or when a baby crawls.
A rose for no reason, except I love you,
a pat on the back for something good you do.
Helping someone across the street,
shaking the hand of the other team, when you are beat.
Giving your seat to another on the bus,
showing your children they have earned your trust.
Opening the door if you see someone in distress,
a smile on your face, even if the day is not your best.
A coin in the hand of someone needing food,
little simple things easily done by you.
Don't be captive of such a busy day,
that your heart is not softened, and you forget to pray.
