Love Poem: Siah the Book

Siah the Book

I accidentally picked up a fantasy book by the roadside
It was fancy, attractive and well perforated
It was not the appearance that moved me but as I flipped
through the pages to see if I could find any note or name
I heard a voice, "put me down before you get hurt I belong to
  the king's daughter"
Startled, I asked then why he was there alone if he had an owner.
He said: "I had been looking forward to see beyond the castle's walls and glad that today I fell from the princess's bag and she didn't realize it. I travel with her every where, I am her closest "friend" object she relays on. But, sometimes I wish she can relate to others, other than me. I want her to have a life where am not fully involved".
I listened to Siah (his name) attentively and subsided in his life story.
I thought listening to him more wouldn't cause any harm so, I took him home with me.
As time went by, I grew fond of Siah we would chat, laugh day and night.
We spent the days in my tree house with a view of the sea, and the nights under the sky light of stars.
Winters passed from one cup of tea to another while I listened to him.
He told me about his adventures in the South Pacific, how he was found by a Pirate on the shores of an Island.
He had belonged to a sorceress and they lived their lives sailing. Unfortunately, a storm hit them hard, the ship sank and his companion never made it.
He stayed with the Pirate for a couple of years till he healed and was later sold to the King.

My life had made a turn; it felt magical to have something so unreal yet tangible, understand me and appreciate our weirdness.
I lived each moment in bliss and sometimes would think about the princess but till then, I had these moments.
Our bond had no confines and only us knew that we existed.

One morning, just as I feared. I heard that the princess was devastated looking for her friend. I felt a touch of sympathy, immediately I remembered Siahs' words "you will get hurt".
But it was right to give back the princess her belonging; I talked to Siah and made him understand that it was best he went back home. And that is what happened. I left him close to the castle and went without looking back.

Now, I live in the webs of memories.
I had held on for too long, to something which would never be mine.
I knew a day of departure would come yet I chose to live blindly and selfishly.
Rage gloves my soul for having spent time building friendship that never even existed.
