Shoot For the Sun

By Laura
May 11, 2016

I woke up this morning and she wasn't there
I looked in her eyes and saw that vacant stare
I woke up this morning and felt her phantom pain
It spilled out from my heart and spun around the drain

She heard the call and so did I
We felt the pain that will not die
She met the ghosts and found me there
Through drifting dreadlocks in her hair

Don't tell me where salvation lies
It's not the time to find my eyes
We made a case to save the day
Misguided dreams got in the way

I get out of bed and wash my face
And I see a ghost without a place
Where disjointed truth becomes another lie
Let's re-bend the light and let this rainy day dry

So she picks me up from our creaky wood floor
She says "you're with me; so don't worry anymore"
As slaves to the cycle of our complicated mess
We aim for the sun; and never ask for less
