Love Poem: She Fell In Love With Dead Men

She Fell In Love With Dead Men

SHE FELL IN LOVE WITH DEAD MEN

When she was eight Ulysses sailed into her mind
Became the siren calling her to delve
Deeply into words and deeds of men to find
Crashing sweeping love from most forgotten shelves

Sword high Arthur pranced his steed down
The trail that Ulysses, adventure prone, blazed
Vanquished foes and never lost his crown
Until Dark forces caused his spirit to be razed

Then music dalliance brought David’s pounded words
sling forgotten --sublime foot high-arched strong
Man’s beauty wasted on a life in herds
But with elemental power burst his song

Countless other men she has book- loved
Through their words and through their deeds--
But one day there ’ll be a man alive who’ll prove
He will follow her wherever quirky leads.
