Love Poem: Shared Dreams

Shared Dreams

Every time after I see you,
And leave you, inevitably,
There is a pattern.
I wake up.
Your scent still lingers, clinging
To my skin like the summer evening
Is always reluctant to release the
Fading glow of twilight...
I can still feel the impression of
Your arms around my like, I guess,
The impression my head left behind
On your pillow, an inscribed record
Of our shared dreams...
I feel like I have discovered peace.
And then it begins to fade, gently,
Slipping away like a paper boat
On a drowsy Caribbean tide... but still,
You don't feel so far away yet
That were I to just run fast enough,
I couldn't still catch sight of
Your sails on the horizon...
That's the first day.

The second day, you still feel
Real enough to want, and so
I miss you... I miss you so much.
I miss you like the sky misses the sun
When he leaves her every night,
The way she wears black until
He returns to her...

By the third day... you have
Become a ghost again.
The closest I can feel to you
Is within my own poetry, as if
You are like any other figment
Of my own dreaming...
