Shadow of Yearning

In the twilight hour waning by the window,
open to the hues of the eventide horizon,
and to the breeze of the departing day,
the sky shimmers with the last glow
of the sun setting at the edge of the indigo night.
Its cascading tang caresses your face,
flushed with the touch of our togetherness,
we carried this far crimped in the entwined hearts.

We haven’t counted the steps
upon the sliding sands on the coast of time,
but the frilled footprints I see engraved plumb in mind,
yours beside mine, etched side by side, all the way
where we're now in the serene shade of eternity.

As the feral winds of desire blow away
the howling clouds, split by the distant thunder,
the pearlescent streams of amorous moonbeam surge
with the azure momentum of ardent fervor
through the window I keep open to the sky,
spread the mystic tapestry of trance on your eyes,
where I see a seamless sea form for me
to sail on the ebullient waves of longing,
reach the fervent shore suffused with your scent,
where my first red rose to you will kiss your lilac lips.

I’ll hear the rhapsodic thrum of dreams,
carried by the waves of ecstasy, we won’t count,
see the pearls of passion spread
on the lengthening shadow of yearning.
