Set Things Right

Betrayal devastates your heart, yet he swears he is not at fault. And when the truth refutes his lies, all of your plans grind to a halt. Anger and sadness sever love, cutting the bonds trust created. And replaced with indifference, hope dies, leaving you frustrated. His lies are peppered with half-truths, calling lust an innocent flirt. And he won't admit any wrong, compounding the depth of your hurt. Taking you for a simpleton, he switches on his boyish charm. And refuses to admit fault, swearing he'd never cause you harm. No matter what friends see or say, he always has an alibi. And you cry inside; for you know it's time for you to say goodbye. Abandoning all future dreams, fantasies no longer take flight. And tending to a broken heart, you wait on time to set things right. (Quatrain) 4/3/2017
