Love Poem: Separation Anxiety

Separation Anxiety

I’ve taken too many steps
Backward
Too many sleepless nights
In my boots
Next to my bed
With no one to say
Goodnight to
Nor to me
And said goodbye
Unwillingly
Too many times
To those I’ve loved
And charished
So dearly
So deeply
Now departed
I’m yet to move on

These are lives lived inside boxes
In homes
Lives moved into boxes
Out of homes
Into dark alleys
Of miserable existence
Into boxes
Six feet under
Into the past tense
For a new home
Without a choice,
A permanent home
A deep dark hole
Buried whole
Far from home
Victims of circumstance

Come back home
Remember the warmth
The lush vegetation growth
The protective voice
Of a collective noise
Around the home
The love,
The laughter
Of children playing
Of birds singing
Of your favourite dish
Of the palatable fresh smell
Of food and drink
A frothed mug o’ coffee
So much caring
Of a dog's affection
