Love Poem: Selectively Secret

Selectively Secret

Secrets for all their guise
tremble in dark
in shadows protection
yet still feel the penumbras chill
concealed away in their selective box
never to pry open
and tell the truth

As by some adolescent fear
there quaking in its boots
should rebuke then utter
death deal its condemnation
and cloistered wishes meet with derision
only to gnaw at doubt
yes these things must stay hidden

Lay open in love
but stay in seclusion
the secret souls of every human
some yearning
some agony of gratification
hangs in the silence
silently wishing

Unburden me it whispers
release me
free me from these unknowable things
but the disavowed stand so naked
defenseless in the gloom
and childish keys lock them away
in their basement room

Stay open in love
without confession
its better that way
keep this darkness well out of sight
its dangerous may empty of protection
and the night may change the following day
keep them yes keep them
concealed forever in their stalwart prison
never, no never to pries them open
and never, not ever tell the truth

Unburden me it whispers
release me
free me from these unknowable things
give me such brave voice
assign me courageous heart
I would stand in the sunlight
bare any misfortune
kneel at the foot of the alter of trust
and be known
