Love Poem: Security Blanket

Security Blanket

Linus sat complacent with his new blanket like a bum.
The old one was too holey; it gave no comfort like his thumb.
It would still wrap around him, but it lost its charm.
So he took another one that would keep him so warm.
The new one was much thicker; it was great to cuddle.
It was his best friend in good times and in trouble.
Security, comfort, refuge, a place of his dreams-
If the blanket wasn't near, then where was his esteem?
He often thought back to the one that didn't last,
But the one around him now felt better than the past.
Once, Snoopy came by and caught Linus unaware.
His eyes opened wide, He cried for he was bare.
He chased, caught and wrestled Snoopy on the ground;
Without his security blanket his world was upside down.
He's so dependent on it. Anything else would be unnatural.
Now he's wearing this one thin; it's not supernatural.
Yet, he still holds it tightly within close custody
Without realizing that it will only lead to catastrophe.
But Linus will be happy with his blanket and his thumb,
Until he feels holey drafts from that blanket like a bum.
