Seasons of Human Love

Spring: Toddler

Do you remember young love?
Maybe you think that you do?
Do you recall your first dream of a kiss?

Might it be still further back?
Mom keeps your sipping cup filled,
Her being there all that’s needed for bliss.

Wondrously simple ties found,
Daily there's prospect for more,
Infant's response to complete stranger's smile?

Rarely survival's in doubt,
Innocence shines through the veil,
Always an endearing absence of guile.

 Summer: Teenager

Push and the pull of home life,
Dreaming but no plans in sight,
Now you’re dependent, but freedom's in store.

Envying what parents have,
Guilt that conflicts with their Love,
How do you reconcile hunger for more.

Try-on on the life of adult,
Shoes still too big for a child,
Need for experience topping your list.

Wonder at all that life brings,
Doubt that you're up to its task,
Heady prospects when at last you are kissed.

 Fall: Parental Prospects

College, (first job) now behind,
Real plans just barely conceived
Future emerging but at a snail's pace.

Suddenly she's by your side,
How did this happen so fast?
Who fired the gun? How’d we get in this race?

Both of us working for pay,
Struggle to catch up with friends,
Where does the time go? Is this how love ends?

Date nights have gone by the way,
Kids need more time than before,
Big time investment but joke dividends?

 Winter: Golden Years

Now's the time poop hits the fan,
Feelings get swept under rug,
Love you still have, likely, all you will get!

Maybe more planning could help,
Likelihood small at this stage,
Fortunate those who still play their duet.

Brother-love is my best tip!
What's there to do? Be a mensch!
All of your life nine short months in Earth's womb?

Paradise could be the end,
FAITH THAT GOD CARES CANNOT FAIL,
Love is for souls who dare stay in the room!
