Say Goodbye

the door opens
one man sits silently in a chair,
his drink very near, no shirt, no shoes,
the woman betrays him for a kiss, the social worker enters,
the man has to leave, he doesn't pay rent, isn't welcome

the woman, the girl, commits a silent suicide, her reason,
the finality of the words "it's over" ring in her mind,
they are like wedding bells in hades, in hell, who wants
to get married in hell, there is no light, no future.

the child died, the woman grieves, the man pours more drink
he says goodbye with each drink, and she rants, shouts, raves,
a stark raving mad woman and a drunk, living day by day
yet the love was so real, so concrete,an oak tree branch sinks in the sand
