Sad Heart Full of Regret

Years of enduring passion have hastily passed
like each woman I briefly loved;
and all the images of beautiful days
bring back forgotten and faded memories...
ah, the foolish choices I made had little wisdom!

Sad heart full of regret, why have you chosen loneliness
over womanly arms who longed for warmth and caresses...
when nights make one dream of seashores embellished by stars?
Ask yourself if lust is as lasting as love, or just lingers and dies,
not caring if the other lover will be deprived of desire!

Is wishing as impossible as stepping back into my past?
Will I rely on unrealistic dreams foggier than the mist?
And should a flame warmer than any kiss engulf me...
she'll wait for my touch to inflame her and draw her to me;
will this wish be realized when no light glitters ahead?

Sad heart, full of regret spare yourself another heartbreak,
joy has been replaced by sadness making you weak;
no woman was more loved by you, but her charms remain
like images that are seen at sunrise as scarlet waves roll in!
Will tears wash away all traces and offer a last hope?

On her birthday you always send her roses as red as her lips;
and who more than you yearns for that fantasy to take shapes?
And as she opened the door she cried for joy...
what other proof did you need to test her fidelity,
if not the incredible woman she was and would have been?

Sad heart full of regret, you idolized her as Venus placing flowers
in her curly, blonde hair; won't those eyes of goddess
be softened by words of intense tenderness and think
that none of them would become as vain as a deceiving wink;
will she reappear in her satin dress and vanish as yesterday?
