Roses and Carnations

I remember the anticipation
As I gave her the first red rose bouquet.
Then she penned on me a pink carnation,
And her Pa glared as I took her away.

'Twas a night of firsts that I still recall -
Would be lovers bathed in the moonlight.
The frost in the air at this Harvest ball -
She moved to the music and held me tight.

Now the years have passed and my hair is grey -
That night of magic still plays in my head,
And I still have her 'til this very day -
As I remember the time that we wed.

Red roses, carnations and golden hair -
Blue eyes and perfume, silken skin so fair.
