Love Poem: Red
Alana Banks Avatar
Written by: Alana Banks

Red

You were a flavour

Sweet,

Then sour,

Then bitter.

Soft at first, the stolen looks, slow but wide
And the red and white.
The peppermint green, the saccharine
Of your eyes as your lips peppered my world with sweetness

-

My rosy lips that touched the decadent crimson glow
Grasped in the palm of my white knuckle hand
The steady verdant gaze of my love, not yet a stranger.

-

And I bite, no longer red and white
No true love’s sweet kiss
I do not know that anymore
Wrapped up tight in a facade
Foil and a ribbon
A pretty little prison.

-

Unravel me in your poisonous kiss,
Lifeblood is fading
Will not I scream
Enveloped by an inescapable dream
This cannot be living

-

There is nothing more of me to take
I have been devoured
If I am to be nothing
Let me be yours
Just red
