Reaching For Heaven
Have you ever outrun the wind
or eclipsed the rays of the sun?
And let magic embrace your heart,
conjuring hope where there was none.
Encouraged by your innocence,
fantasies overtook the truth.
And swept aside reality
with the sheer impetus of youth.
Smitten by unrequited love,
you can't conceal rejection's pain.
For like smoke reaching for heaven,
your highest hopes were launched in vain.
Disappointment feels surreal,
accepting blame for love's demise.
And pooling deep within your heart,
teardrops trickle from weeping eyes.
You're emotionally empty,
acclimating to love's defeat.
And it is hard to imagine
that you will ever feel complete.
