Love Poem: Promises

Promises

Words full of great ideas that
ease your fears and please your ears
that patches and snatches
              your heart to pieces
releases the tension, give lies new dimension
pays no attention to the temporary contention of hearts
             that you cannot unbreak
caused by the dipped in honey words that you once spake,
              but
the rivers of truth are washing over me now
how could I not see then, what’s so clear now
evidenced by not so visible tears
my silent cries that missed your ears
the love that you gave me
            secretly enslaved me
your name engraved on my soul indelibly
blinded me to the path that lay straight ahead of me
cause your love was so sweet
and your lips were so sweet
I thought I really needed you to make me complete
and completed I am
depleted I am
for your promises have left me
empty.
