Love Poem: Promise of Love

Promise of Love

Their dreams filled their heads
As they drove up the hill
To the orphanage, they hoped and prayed
For a child that laid
Swaddled and warm
In a crib, to bring home on this day

But a little bit older,
The child seemed cold
Yet a smile was worn on his face
So the couple agreed
To love and to feed
This child they’ll take from this place

And though they have nothing
No money in the bank
No brand new house
But to the child they’ll give a home
As parents they swear
To give all love and to care
To treat this child as if was their own

The dark of the night
And the child he cried
A burning horrible wail
She’s a mother now
And ran to his side
Her loving was not meant to fail

She took and she held
So tight, bosom swelled
As he hushed and fell back asleep
He’s her child now
So much love to allow
Her son, forever to keep

And though they have nothing
No money in the bank
No brand new house
But to the child they’ll give a home
As parents they swear
To give all love and to care
To treat this child as if was their own

He is a man now
With a wife of his own
Yet barren as his mom and his dad
To the car they had gone
A new road they’re now on
To the place he was as a lad

They plan to adopt
To share all they’ve got
Though nothing they have to their name
But it’s love that they’ll give
For a child to live
To grow happy and love just the same

And though they have nothing
No money in the bank
No brand new house
But to the child they’ll give a home
As parents they swear
To give all love and to care
To treat this child as if was their own
