Love Poem: Prelude

Prelude

The burden of another day
beset with broken dreams,
of feeling inconsolable,
a lonely wretch it seems,
with nothing but a wounded heart
to keep me company,
I wandered aimlessly along,
my doubts consuming me,

'til there before me shone a vision,
could my heart believe it's true?
a woman came as if from nowhere,
God had gifted me with you
to wipe away my tears of sadness,
give me strength to overcome
the emptiness that long had festered
in my soul so cold and numb;

filling me with hope and laughter,
images of brighter days,
a future now so full of promise
so far from my woeful ways.
I know now grief was just a prelude
to a love both tried and true,
Joy is now my only measure
with a lady sweet as you!
