Love Poem: Precious Moments

Precious Moments

The bogeyman exists in the reality of life
through drugs, alcohol, and violence.
In pursuit of happiness,
we oft say and do illogical things.
And yet, we're confused
when others fail to see where we are going.
Sometimes, the building blocks of trust
are laid on weak moral grounds.
And relationships are in jeopardy;
for we fail to communicate truthfully
with each other.
Time is neither good nor bad,
but remains a constant,
carrying away precious moments and heartaches
with equal determination.
Lust accomplishes the role assigned to it,
but lacks the necessary heat required
to ignite passion's flame.
And so it is two-dimensional;
for though it satisfies urges and longings,
it's noticeably lacking depth.
We are all slaves to our emotions,
and oft find ourselves
trespassing on the feelings of others,
with immunity and impunity.
And given the opportunity,
hate, festering in a hardened heart,
will flare up,
and consume love from the insides,
like cancer.
