Precious Gifts Passed Down

"There is no doubt that it is around the family and the home that all the greatest virtues, the most dominating virtues of humans, are created, strengthened and maintained." – Winston Churchill In my favorite photo, our family is gathered ‘round the long wood table, an heirloom Precious gifts passed down As we laugh and share the day’s best tidings Eyes dancing sparkles of laughter sounds Dishes passed to share with all going around The dog underneath, cleaning up without complaint And Grandma’s cheeks flushed pink with bliss Standing ready to fetch the families’ every desire Home canned goodness spread upon the table Precious gifts passed down Of loving hands holding tight the threads And Grandpa wearing the family birthday hat A homemade black cherry cake sitting in his honor Candles lit and burning low as he gathers wishes Each grandchild a blessing adored in his heart Each memory etched in wrinkles deeply lined Precious gifts passed down
