Love Poem: Possum

Possum

I’ll never forget good old “Possum”
He was the best – a friend to us all
He would try anything, never met a stranger
He risked life and limb – to reach toward the sky

I’ll never forget good old “Possum”
He had that nickname before he could walk
I haven’t a clue just why they call him that
It could have been that was his Dad’s nickname too

I’ll never forget good old “Possum”
He had a heart of gold, would give from his heart
He spoke the kindest words and gave hope…
To those who were downtrodden

I’ll never forget good old “Possum”
He was the one everyone would go to
When their heart was really hurting
Never gave a hoot for turning away the heartbroken

I’ll never forget good old “Possum”
He was warm and welcoming
Expressed himself with an honest grin
And always laughed with a sincere joy

I’ll never forget good old “Possum”
His real name was Jeff and it just so happens
I married him – after experiencing some life
And realizing that he was my very best friend,
Together, we’re sharing our joys, hopes and dreams
Along with a few aches and pains!!!
