Pillow of Memories

“Pillow of Memories”

So long ago my heart beat for someone I loved more than myself
A whisper in the wind created smiles when she was not in my arms
Her heart was my heart and my heart was hers for the years to come
God had answered my prayers and in return I closed my eyes and smiled

We were so very young and the world was but a shadow underneath our feet
Nothing could stop our feet from running towards each other as we danced
Like the shimmering light glistening off snowflakes falling in the winter’s night
We were what others loved to see as others wished would melt away

To be in love so young and yet to be so immature to let her slip away
To feel her heart beating with mine as so many years has past by
Lost without knowing she was still breathing thinking of me too
Searching for any answer to know my Michelle was alive and well

Today a prayer was answered and now my heart can rest at night
I heard from the ghost of love with the voice I will never forget
She’s happy, she’s married, and she has never forgot me either
Tonight, my heart will rest knowing she’s smiling and closure has finally come
So many days in the past has the song “Nothing Compares to You” rang out in my head
Echoing in the silence of my thoughts as I think everyone I see is her
Just to hear her voice has brought me peace and the smile I’ve longed to find
I may never hear from my Michelle again but now I may lay my heart on a pillow of memories
