Pieces of My Heart

Memories are just pieces of my heart left behind for you
Drumming out the beat of our great love
And I'll be watching over baby Grace and and you, her daddy too
From a place where tears just don't exist,
And no one ever raised an angry fist
And my new wings, they fit just like a glove.
And I've still got your back but from above.

I never thought that love could be so easy
Til I spotted you at church that Sunday morn
With your ripped up jeans and inked-up arms and eyes so full of pain
I saw older people lookin' at you with some frank disdain.

But Jesus always loved the most rebellious
And I guess I'm just a little bit like Him
'Cuz I took one look at your cigarettes peeking out to flaunt your sin
And I knew I longed to belong to you and Him.

I thought the day we said "I do" was the best that it could get
Til our little miracle was birthed last year
And I named her Grace to show the Lord forgives both me and you
Because that's the greatest message anywho.

So please don't walk away from God cuz you're the jealous kind
And He wants me back with Him most any day
Because I'll wait for you and Gracie in a mansion in the sky
My body's gone, but our love will never die.
