Peeling Onions

What I tell my friends if they should ask if I’m okay
Is I’ve been peeling onions ever since you went away
I don’t know what I’m meant to say so I can make them see
That I’ll be peeling onions until you come back to me

Another day another sigh but I shall never cry
The tear upon my cheek is down to something in my eye

When you walked away with not so much as a goodbye
Could you not have offered me the slightest reason why
But since the day I heard you’d left me for another guy
I seem to find that peeling onions helps the time go by

Another day another sigh but I shall never cry
The tear upon my cheek is down to something in my eye

There comes a time when even friends no longer want to know
And point out, “You’ve been peeling onions for a month or so.”
So am I done with peeling onions? I’m not sure I know
Is it time I figured out that I must let you go

Another day another sigh but I shall never cry
The tear upon my cheek is down to something in my eye

Your best friend set me up so I would be sat here with you
She did let slip the news that you’d been peeling onions too
I was tempted when you said could we get back together
But I’ve peeled lots of onions; I won’t peel another - ever
