Pay Tv Have We Got It Wrong

I may have had a change of heart,
My daughter has Netflix and I have piggybacked on it,
And I value the indirect savings of,
Avoiding the adds and the temptations put in front of me,
To buy things I don't need and may never use,
It may even help my powers of conversation,
And memory retention,
It also keeps me off Facebook.

Can we still justify the money for publicly funded TV channels?
Here in NZ that are littered with ads tempting people who can't afford it,
To buy things they don't need and may never use,
Ending up with credit card debt at high interest,
Then unable to pay the rent,
Resulting in expectations of a govt top up,
Something worthy of discussion perhaps.

Note: We used to have a thing called a TV licence in NZ,
Which meant limited advertising,
But when people refused to pay their licence,
The advertisers saw their chance.

I wonder if those who refused to pay are regretting that now.
