Love Poem: Part of the Deal

Part of the Deal

You know you will cry
when your pet dog dies
The tears will overflow

It is selfish to feel
you need more time to steal
So hard to let them go

It's not that they made you feel loved
It's that you were loved
By a four legged friend
who is happiest when
They are with us to spend
time...

Time to play, time to sleep
Time to guard, time to eat
Time to groom, time to rest
Time to be together, time apart to miss
Time to walk, time to share
Time to hold, time to care

A shy boy or girl
a playful puppy rocks their world
and gives them a friend to grow

For the old
A dog to pet and hold
makes loneliness nothing to know

For the disable
a train dog is able
to make their lives easier to be

For the blind
they guide them to see
making their lives a little more free

You can talk to your dogs
and they understand
they know their names and commands
how smart they turn out to be

Like children to us they become
Protective of them as they are to you
Somehow you know what each other will do

They make us laugh
They make us cry
They make us smile
They make us try
They are our friends
waggling tail to wet nose
That happy bark or funny pose

They know our secrets
see us in the shower
Know us better or worse

From dusk to dawn
alert at night for any wrong
Faithful true and loyal pals
Hard to say goodbye now

People without dogs are not human
it takes a dog to keep you real
A dog unconditionally loves you
and that is better than any pill

Go and rescue another dog
not to replace but to fulfill
For recusing another dog you find
the dog is recusing you as part of the deal.
