Love Poem: Our Last Duet

Our Last Duet

On my mind every moment of the day
I love you with every breath on my lips
Don’t know how I can live with yesterday
Your passing has caused a solar eclipse

I think of all the happiness we've shared
Salvaging smiles adrift in seas of tears
And though I told myself I'd be prepared
I prayed God would give you a few more years

Death suddenly snatched the warmth from the sun
Life to me seems no longer worth living
Yet there is nothing that I could have done
No one's at fault... no one needs forgiving

My heart was bursting sufficient for two
And of holding your hand I never tired
I could have forever entertained you
With stories of love before hope expired

Alzheimer's drained your memories away
Until piece by piece your life fell apart
And inevitably death came your way
Leaving a gaping hole deep in my heart
