Only Your Pictures and Mama's Memories

I can't remember ever feeling your touch but mama
said you loved me so much.
I have all your pictures that mama saved and once
every week we put flowers on your grave.
Mama never found another man to love...she said
her memories of you would always be enough.
I grew to know you with each passing year
mama made sure your memory lived here.
She told me, I was so tiny when you got the call...
destination Vietnam, a place so far.
You never had a chance to be a part of my life...
your country called and you faded from sight.
I married a man that was a soldier too and he was
fighting a war that took him away...the way it took you.
Pictures and memories are all I have left, but nothing
on earth could ever replace all the love I have felt.
