One Mistake Cost Many Tears

Oh that I had shunned his first embrace.
And turned away his luscious kiss.
Too young to understand love,
Afraid to feel him near,
Filled with emotion.
He took control.
Dreams rampant.
Thinking 
Love.

I should have dated other people.
Instead I clung to only him.
Like a lamb to the slaughter,
I followed him to sin.
Self-respect was lost.
My values crushed.
Love in force.
Ashamed.
Bad.

I should have gone to port with girlfriends.
My “perfect match” they said, was there.
My soul mate docked near, that year.
Young, handsome, and gifted –
That meeting drifted.
Missed at Ft. Bragg,
And Texas.
