Once Upon a Time

A friend opened his heart to me one day, telling me how lonely he was without his wife who’d sadly passed away. He told me his favourite song ever was “0nce Upon a Time” sung by Tony Bennet and he used to sing it for her. Also he told me some of their love story, how they met and got wed and the lovely life they’d shared. That same day I wrote this poem for him, he loves it. * * *
Once Upon a Time
“Once upon a time never comes round again, we live and we love till our hearts break in pain.”Quote - Poet’s own
Once upon a time I said we should wed Your pretty face blushed as you answered "yes" For fifty eight years we shared wedded bliss Love for eternity, I'd promised this. Ours was a match made akin to heaven Gift wrapped in love of purest fine essence Every magic moment, minute and hour Had the charm of sweet roses in flower. It's lonesome without you, tough moving on Days are long from dawn to setting of sun I cherish the memories, we were blessed With many treasures in our memoir chest. I look to celestial stars every night Wishing you were safe in my arms, held tight On a high cloud in the somewhere above To hug and kiss showered in fairy dust. I'd not swap one thing of those precious years The family we made, so close and dear Living the dream with both our hearts entwined In sheer rhapsody, once upon a time.
