Love Poem: Once I Called You

Once I Called You

Once I called you friend
Though I've tried, I cannot get it back again
Too much damage, too much pain
Too much love still remains

Once I called you love
And believed in dreams sent from above
But when the push came to shove
You broke the sacred vow: trust

Once I called you mine
And together, the words would rhyme
But the dreams were given up in time
And I am now the last one in your line

Once I called you special
Kept secrets I'll never tell
Picked you up when you fell
But you never knew me very well

Once I called you, once you answered
Once you called me, once we shared
Now I call you, through the darkness
I look but can't find you anywhere

The memories still exist
Somewhere in time and space
Taking me through the past
And feelings I can never replace

Once I called you friend
I'd like to have that back again

Once I called you love
I'd like to find that trust

Once I called you special
But there are secrets I cannot tell

Once I called you mine
But that's been lost in time

Once I called you friend
Though I've tried, I cannot get it back again
Too much damage, too much pain
Too much love still remains

But once I called you...
