Love Poem: On the Brink

On the Brink

She sneaks next door
when he's asleep,
forgetting the vows
she promised to keep.

She's young and pretty,
on overdrive,
the guy next door,
he's so alive.

The one at home,
he's a good guy,
her parents love him,
and cringe at her lies.

She needs more
than he can give,
needs the passion
just to live.

So now she's in
her lover's arms,
how can something so good
cause so much harm?

And all we can do
is hold our breath,
we know her marriage's
on the brink of death.

Oh, lust-driven youth,
we remember it well,
and know the destruction
it often foretells.

Remorse is a burden
that weighs down a soul,
and we wish we could save her
from this torturous hole.
