Love Poem: Old Wounds

Old Wounds

The obnoxious sound of heartbeats boom
Drumming incessantly overhead
Here I sit in the belly of your gloom
Wanting for your blighted affection

Play me not for such a saccharine foal
Meet my adulations or better yet
I implore you to devour me whole
Spring born now matured for slaughter

Pick at old wounds crudely glued in youth
They bleed no more than hollow slights
A broken reflection of errant truth
Stilling my stagnant satisfaction

Quiet now your gallery of shrift hired fill
They continue to convey my words
As an infant's nonsensical swill
Of unrequited devotion

If my notions cloy too heartily on your soul
Please silence my still, beaten heart
Embraced lovers transform to coal
Ashes of tenderness forsaken
