Love Poem: Old Sunglasses

Old Sunglasses

I thought these sunglasses were cool and wore so well
But if you look closely one can see they have a dark story to tell

A story of lies, deception, disrespect, and co-dependency
The artificial comfort of having them and the sick complacency

You know, I thought everything was cool
But now I see I was just the fool

Grabbing these old dusty things was a habit that had become a part of me
Each morning and every night it was me and good ole 'dusty'

Scratched up, old, dusty, and falling off my face
Didn't even fit, and I thought I saw roses in them, now, what a disgrace

Well, that was then and this is now
For a moment, I could just sit and ponder, how?

But I'm quickly reminded of an edifying light which is cool
Seeing things with the first then two 'cause I'm nobody's fool

Yes! My third is my first, and it is open wide
Now with the first, I can see all that was hidden and all that the 'sunglasses' tried to hide
