Love Poem: Oh My Boy

Oh My Boy

O, my little boy
So wondrous and so full of joy
Away from you, there’s a void
Can’t be filled

Child, father, man –
They’re all of the same plan
I guess I’ll never understand
The way it’s willed

I spent so long
in the mirrored wilderness –
A labyrinth of my hate,
The bull-headed man’s guest
In me, you never fail
to draw out the best –
A better man that I never knew I’d be

O, my perfect boy
In rooms held hostage by toys
Walls welling with exuberant noise –
What a meadow of life

I fail repeatedly
My lack dominating me
I plead you won’t have to see
Such feeble strife

I spent so long
in the mirrored wilderness –
A labyrinth of my hate,
The bull-headed man’s guest
In me, you never fail
to draw out the best –
A higher place I never thought I’d see

At nighttime, in the shadows
of sinister loneliness,
With no other gods to claim me,
I pray to you like this:
“Oh my boy,
How I serve thee.
Oh my boy,
How I serve thee.”
