Love Poem: No Lo Tengo

No Lo Tengo

She's gone
It’s hotel days
And cigarettes
I can’t believe
She left me for a matador
A cape upon the stairs

Mocking bird by my window
Speaking Spanish in the hall
I bounce from room to room
A knife in my hand
I slash at life blindly
An ass in the stall

Singing songs in Portuguese
I hear them through the wall
Upon a sea of certainty
I must make a call
Do I sleep with myself?
Or should I make a call

There are women who say they love me
But I don’t believe it’s true
I think they are just lonely
And hope that I would be true
But a matador has stole my love
And would they understand
That it’s not about the flesh
But more about the plan?

So tonight I sleep alone again
Not that I really mind
For a king bed for one
Is more than I can stand.
Muchas gracias
Amigo
No lo tengo nada
Just a memory of a bull
And a bird in my hand.
