Love Poem: Never Meant To Be

Never Meant To Be

NEVER MEANT TO BE

All star-crossed lovers deserve sympathy
Never destined to meet, to share, to feel
Despite the boiling passion when aroused
With society’s ice-cold water it is doused
And the sense of sheer unfairness is real
But never ever close to embracing apathy

The barrier experienced is often physical
But sometimes exposing a cultural norm
Where a law or just social conventions
That can still deny love’s best intentions
Fighting through the most severe storm
To make a connection that feels magical

But any imagined proximity does not last
All real contact needs to be skin to skin
Tragic, when a meeting of souls is denied
When all those love song lyrics have lied
The saddest story that there’s ever been
Left at the fountain with no coins to cast
