Love Poem: Never Did

Never Did

Do we hear the sound
coming up from the ground
from where our thoughts have died
do we think we've really tried?

From here and there
written into the very air
are lives and dreams
flowing together in streams

Each one is a story
not to be outdone by glory
uncomes the heavy thread
an undoing tapestry of the dead

Tomorrow comes and lingers on
the tide breaking intune with the dawn
the poets will weep their hearts
as they bleed out for the ritual arts

Please, just put down your hands
stop pleading with me to answer your demands
I find it so hard to stand here with you
letting your sadness block out the beautiful view

We've all bled enough for this world
yet more of us will die truth be told
but put down your hands dear
with me there is nothing for you to fear

I'll be here until tomorrow comes
even then I'll be here behind the words we hum
my hand will be there like a resilient ghost
reminding you of all the people that believe in you the most

Don't you remember the first day of our life
the wedding bands, summer park, and cutting the cake with the knife
all the raindrops, the gray mornings, blankets on the beach
though I may leave you I'll never be out of reach

I wondered if you would ever come around
open your eyes and walk above the ground
meet me in the morning with those pinwheel eyes
so bright with joy and cleared of any of their lies

but fairytales always have to end
coming around is something you never did
locked away in your hidden place
bereft of hope and lost without face
