Love Poem: Nervous Anticipation

Nervous Anticipation

With sweaty palms I take her hand
As I come to rest on one knee
The words were hung in the back of my throat
Trying their best to get free

My heart was shouting just do it
I could hear it with every beat
What would she say I will or I won't
Heavenly bliss or defeat?

Each time I tried to utter those words
My voice would quiver and shake
How many times have I practiced this
And how many times will it take

Only a whisper with one breath of air
Was all I was able to free
I just couldn't wait for her ears to accept
Those words, "Will you marry me?"

The seconds would seem like hours
Time would simply stand still
With two little words filled with tears
She uttered the sound, "I will"
