My Love's a Treasure Trove
My shovel struck the box I’d buried there.
I cried, recalled the love I’d felt so long
Ago, a time when things were not the way
They are today. I read the lines again:
“My love for you will never die, my love,
Be mine and let us love eternally,
My heart is yours until the sodden grave.”
I buried battered body, verse and box,
And like those things, my heart is hidden deep
Within the coldest tomb, a lonely place.
I know someday my crime will be unearthed,
But ‘til that day my love’s a treasure trove.
