My Lamp
a light
shining in the distance
pulling me forward
promising a home
a loving family
a beautiful future
what I have to do is simple
stay in school
survive the pangs of loneliness
and the moments of pain
when all I want is to be held
I followed the light
stayed strong for my future
but the light went out
snuffed in it's prime
there I stood
left alone in the dark
my hope snuffed out
my strength won't leave though
I need to stay strong
I can still make it through
I follow the memory of a light
listen to the ghost of words
I can stay strong
survive through it
prove that I can
show what a promise means
