Love Poem: My Hero
Nikki Pruitt Avatar

My Hero

You pulled me out of the sea of sin,
You rinsed me off
And pushed me to win.
Before I met you
I lived in fear,
Afraid of myself
And all that was near.

Self destruction
Changed my direction,
Self sabotage saved me a seat in hell,
As the devil knocked me off my feet
You reached out your hand,
My soul to keep.

You hold the key to my heart now,
You showed me life
And taught me how,
To become something more,
Igniting the desire to live in my core.
To live a life with no strife,
I sheathed my knife.

No more fight,
You pushed me to try,
Giving me a reason
To stop the lies.
No more defense mechanisms,
Better mannerisms,
Overall different,
Maybe this is it?

Everything you’ve shown me is truthful,
You fulfill,
My dreams and fantasies,
You make me believe
In a life that is worth living
With all of your giving.

You took my broken pieces,
Traded them for peace.
You mended my brokenness,
You pushed me through with ease
And you didn’t let me slip through the creases,
With you I grew
Into something more,
You mended what was torn.

I took the leap,
You swept me of my feet,
Lifted me up
And gave memories to keep.
Your smile brightens
Even the darkest days,
Your grip on my heart tightens
As you keep the demons as bay.

Because of you I am fearless
And know what love is.
Because of you I push harder
Each and every day.
Because of you I’m not afraid,
You showed me how to break out of this cage.
You prayed for my safety
And God saved me.
For this I thank you,
You may not be superman,
But you’re my hero.
