My Hero, My Champion
With a smile that he always wore
I remember him as so tall
His sense of humor so genuine
The love in his heart never small
Such a beautiful man
Easy going and fun
The things he would get into
Would leave mom quite undone
He trained beagles
So there were puppies galore
I’d sit amongst them
So many kisses in store
Long walks on the farm
The dogs running ahead
Gave me my love of nature
And my curiosity always led
We’d sit on the front porch
Long talks we would have
I cherish these times
That I spent with my dad
Not lectures but questions
Were his favorite start
So he could help me explore
What was stored in my heart
Even when young I could see in his eyes
The love that he had for me
Like I was his prize
He made me feel special and I wanted to please
I never passed up a moment to sit on his knees
My hero, my champion
The companion I had
And I was so blessed
To call him my dad
