My Heavenly Granddaughter

Heaven Leigh Kent,
With whom a lot of my time has been spent,
Non of which I even slightly resent,
I assure you, she certainly thinks I am a gent!

When she was two,
The things we use to do,
Was mostly peek a boo,
And hid and go seek,
I have to admit I’d let her peek!

She use to scratch my face,
In her youthful impatient hast,
But her love would quickly erase,
The scars on anyone’s face,
At least in my case!

When she was four,
She would squeal for more,
When to keep her from bore,
I’d pretend to let her drive my car,
But granny would sure give us what for!

She has beautiful, red hair,
Over other kids gave her what for,
Just a few freckles,
Speckle,
On her pretty little pug nose,
A little sun and it glows,
A little sore nose never blows,
That’s just the way it goes!

When she was about six,
She developed a few neat tricks,
She would sit on my lap,
And say I love you grand pap,
She knew how to draw my love sap,
Between us left very little gap!

Shortly thereafter,
She was my master,
But I knew what she was after,
A trip to the candy store,
 I am certainly shore,
But without her life would be a bore!

Down the toy aisle
Her mixture of style,
A shopping cart high,
She’s the apple of my eye,
Toys and candy,
She’s grandpa’s dandy!

She’s now virtually a teen,
But not from grandpa weaned,
She is the pretties thing you’ve ever seen,
She still sits in my lap,
And she still draws the love’s sap,
As we recap!

Now just a little bolder,
With a little of the world to shoulder,
She’s found the world to be a little colder,
Than grand pa’s shoulder, that’s older!

Now my heart shudders,
And My mind stutters,
When I think of when she was first born,
For she gave us cause for great alarm,
Born with a heart defect,
As the doctors inspect,
To see what was needed,
Her life was completed!

She died on the table,
As it was labeled,
For two or three minutes,
She received the death sentence,
As she was carried in the arms of Jesus!

One day in a church at the age of three,
She pointed a picture of Jesus, out to me,
She said that man carried me, as I looked to see,
That is how we understood it to be,
At the age of three!

She understands how love between humans should be,
She has shown me how love from heaven should be,
My joy, My granddaughter, heart healthy as can be,
My pretty princess, Heaven Leigh,
I am the grandpa of something that’s heavenly!
