My Experience, My Lesson

I was walking along golden sand with the sun glaring down in my eyes
Wandering with thoughts of distant shores, seeking answers to my cries.
I happened upon a pensive man, questioning all, mostly Man.
And I did not expect the question he gave when he extended me his hand.
“What manner of man are you, my friend?” was the question he asked of me.
Understand, I gave no thought before this time, but now I start to see.
“I’m a fairly good man, moral and kind and always fearing of God.
But I make mistakes, and my children they pay, when I don’t spare the rod.
I’ve offered to help, I worry, I cry, but I just can’t make them see
That to be a good man, moral and just, it is important just to be.
I mean, don’t think, get tense or fear over what you need to do.
Just be who you are and do unto others as you would have done unto you.”
The man, he said, with a powerful gaze, “My friend, you’ve followed my way,
You’ve traveled the path, the steps I ‘ve made, to live on in other ways.”
It was then that I knew, without speaking a word, of whom I was speaking to.
My words to him were, as he smiled back at me, “Lord, may I walk on with you?”
Upon turning to me and raising his hand, my understanding did grow.
The Lord, he is just, loving and kind and that’s all we need to know.

Go with God, for you’ll never be alone.
