My Dearest Flower

A soldier writes home to his beloved wife

Whenever I think of the loved we share
My heart beats so fast it is hard to breathe
Love is the one thing this anguish to relieve
I know soldiers aren’t supposed to care
This conception just isn’t fair
In this thought love is there
In the distance the trumpet blares
I remember all the roses and the wine
The dream is still so alive
Toward our future I will strive

I carry each day the joy of us
These memories shall live with me
Love that means so very much
