My Dad

‘MY DAD’

It was on 'Good Friday'1973,

The doctor delivered his verdict, he said 'he has the big c',

He stood there expressionless, not a flicker crossed his face,

So cold, so hard, barely part of the human race,

He never said 'I'm sorry' he didn't say a thing,

He just walked off and left us, we couldn't take it in,

It was only weeks earlier that it started

With a cough and cold,

Now suddenly he was looking very, very old.

We hadn't expected anything, like this to be told,

6 months to a year, he later said.

But by then, my dad was confined to bed,

As it turned out, 6 weeks is all he had,

He suffered terribly, it was very, very bad,

He gave up his cigarettes, which caused all this strife

BUT HE PAID THE ULTIMATE PRICE,

WITH HIS LIFE.
