Love Poem: My Curse

My Curse

Thou hast begun a lonely quest
Into the great unknown;
Down a path of vague obsessions,
Which thou dost face alone.

Thy mind is haunted by the past,
A battle thou must flee;
Thus ye have chosen to forget
What I have shared with thee.

Yet, to ignore the roads we walk
Is to ignore ourselves.
We cannot flee from who we are,
Nor place the past on shelves.

For those who hide from painful truths,
Are prisoners of fear.
Whilst we, who love thee, pay the price
For unforgotten years.

Thou wouldst deny where thou hast been,
Thy vows callously spurned.
And with the loss of erstwhile dreams,
Thy bridges have been burned.

Yet I must cling to fruitless hopes,
Across this vast divide.
And though love hath forsaken me,
This yearning won't subside.

For once true love hath touched the soul
Ne’er shall it depart.
'Tis a passion ever burning,
That so consumes the heart.

But if such love goes unreturned,
I know of nothing worse.
The blessings true love once bestowed,
Have now become my curse.
